Man reels in huge catfish in downtown Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A Waterloo man made the catch of a lifetime Friday.  Keith Adams was out fishing early in the morning in the Cedar River in downtown Waterloo when he felt a big tug.  It took him more than an hour to reel in a massive flathead catfish.  It weighed in at 35 pounds six ounces.

"Biggest one I've ever seen.  I've been fishing 27 years, biggest one," said Keith Adams.

35 pounds is a big fish, but no comparison to the biggest ever caught in Iowa.  The Department of Natural Resources shows an 81 pounder was caught in 1958 in Lake Ellis in Lucas County.

This year's Free Fishing Days in Iowa run June 5, 6, and 7.
