Representatives fight for casinos

JOHNSTON (KWWL) -- The racing and gaming commission met Thursday afternoon to discuss building more casinos in Iowa.

Representatives from Tama, Franklin and Lyon counties, as well as Fort Dodge and Ottumwa told the commission about the impact a casino would have on their communities.  Many people argued a casino would improve their local economies.

An independent consultant studied the potential impact in several areas across the state. Advisors say Lyon county in northwest Iowa appears to be an area that could best support a new casino.

The gaming commission must now decide whether or not to accept new applications for casino licenses.

The commission's next meeting is scheduled for July 16th.
