Possible pawn scheme in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) -- Police in southeast Iowa have seized vehicles, cash and items believed to be involved in a scheme to steal from stores and sell goods online and at pawn shops.

Ottumwa Police Chief Jim Clark announced Thursday that search warrants were served May 28 at a home in Kirkville and one in Oskaloosa as well as Osky Music and Pawn in Oskaloosa and Fort Madison Music and Pawn.

Clark says an investigation shows members of a group were stealing items from stores then selling them on EBay and at pawn shops. Police estimate the group took in nearly $1 million from EBay and other Internet auction accounts over a multi-year period.

Clark says charges are pending. Other police agencies and security operations from Wal-mart and Target helped in the case.
