Brittany & Brielle: sisters & friends

by Sunny Layne

CEDAR VALLEY (KWWL) -- Few of us can achieve success in life without the help of another person. The organization Big Brothers and Big Sisters exists to make sure all children have someone in their corner.

Meet outstanding "Big Sister of the year," Brittany Argotsinger, she is someone you should know.

Brittany Argotsinger and Brielle Kiewet are sisters.
"She has made me a lot happier cuz I have someone to talk to," Kiewet said.

Not in a biological sense, but a friendship sense, paired by Brothers and Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa.
"I don't think there is a kid that couldn't use an extra adult in their life," Argotsinger said.

For a year, 25-year-old Brittany and 11-year-old Brielle have conquered bike riding, ice skating, strawberry picking, volunteering, pancake tossing, and geography just to name some of their activities, and they're all included in this scrapbook.

"I like new words she teaches me cuz then I can say them all the time and say to different people and they're like, 'What does that mean?'" Kiewet said.

This duo gets along so well, and spends so much time together, this year Brothers and Big Sisters will recognize Brittany Argotsinger as its "Big Sister of the year."
"I think we all have a role to play in supporting the youth in our community," Argotsinger said.

But Brittany insists she's having just as much fun, if not more, than her little sister, who plans to follow in Brittany's footsteps as a Big Sister herself someday.
"It made me really happy, so it would make someone else really happy," Kiewet said.

And even though they're not technically related, these sisters say their family bond will remain.
"This is a lifetime thing," Argotsinger said. "We've made a connection that will hopefully last a very long time."

Brittany insists anyone can mentor. For more information, click here.
