UPDATE: Officer shoots at car speeding toward him

WATERLOO (KWWL) - Police fired shots this morning in downtown Waterloo. It happened shortly before 8:30 am Monday at the Department of Correctional Services building at 527 East 5th Street.  Police were called to pick up 38-year-old Deon Mosley on a parole violation warrant.

Department of Correctional Services staff directed the first arriving officer to Mosley, who police say had entered a car and was preparing to leave the parking lot.  Police say the officer motioned for Mosley to stop the car, but instead, Mosley accelerated towards the officer.  The officer then fired his gun at the approaching vehicle and jumped out of the way of the car as it sped past him.

According to police, other officers pursued the car several blocks until Mosley abandoned the car and began running on foot.  After a short foot pursuit Mosley was taken into custody in the 500 block of Dane Street without further incident.   Mosley was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail where he is being held on a parole violation warrant with a bond of $75,000.  Neither the officer nor Mosley was injured during this incident.

Following Waterloo Police Department policy, the officer involved was placed on leave with pay and the Iowa Department of Public Safety; Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to investigate this incident.
