JONES COUNTY (KWWL) - A six year old boy and his father are hospitalized after an elevator shaft accident Friday.  It happened around 11:00 am along Highway 151 in Jones County, between Cascade and Monticello.

Investigators have identified them as 32-year-old Jerald Pasker and six-year-old Gary Pasker. The father and son are from Monticello.

The boy was flown by lifeguard helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with injuries to his chest and leg.  His father was taken by ambulance to Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Names have not been released.

Jones County Sheriff Deputy Greg Graver tells KWWL Jerald Pasker was in the process of moving equipment down a concrete shaft when the hydraulic lift gave wan and the two victims fell three stories to concrete below.

"He stepped out on to the pallet, with his 6 year old in his arms, the pallet kicked out and both fell 25 feet."

Several emergency crews were called to the scene including: Monticello Ambulance and Fire as well as Cascade Ambulance and Fire.  The Iowa State Patrol was also on the scene to control traffic passing on HWY 151.

"There was a stairway leading down into the basement so we were able to go down 3 flights of stairs," said Denny Green with the Cascade Fire Department.

Green says it was cold and damp downstairs and both patients were in pain.

The elevator shaft belongs to private secured communications company, which owns the property.  The business has been running since 2001.
