APLINGTON (KWWL) -- It was May 29, 1918 in Iowa history when six people died after a train wreck in Butler County.  An Illinois Central passenger train went through a bridge at Aplington.

Many people were hurt and taken to Waterloo for care.  In an article published the next day in the Nashua Reporter, the crash was thought to have been caused by high water, which weakened the bridge.
