New program helps flooded Iowa City residents

IOWA CITY (KWWL)-- A new program in Iowa City is awarding more than $2 million to replace housing lost during last spring's flood.

The Single Family New Construction Unit Production Program will provide down payment funds for 40 home buyers to purchase newly built homes within the Iowa City limits.

The city is working with developers on the homes that will cost less than $180,000.

Priority will be given to those on the city's proposed buyout list.  Applications will be accepted until June 15 at the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County office in Iowa City.
