Kernels Win 5th in a Row, 6-2 over Fort Wayne

Posted:

The Cedar Rapids Kernels were the benefactors of some wet weather at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, IN as they defeated the Tincaps, 6-2, in a game delayed by rain nearly two hours and then finally called in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The Kernels scored four runs in the first inning as Tyson Auer and Alexi Amarista singled before the first rain delay. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball and Auer scored on a sacrifice fly by Gabe Jacobo that was muffed by the Fort Wayne left fielder. Matt Crawford doubled to score Amarista and Jon Townsend scored Jacobo and Crawford to end the inning.

Kernels scheduled starter Manaurys Correa was scratched after the rain delay and Jeremy Thorne (3-2) took over, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings for the win. Fort Wayne starter Rob Musgrave (1-3) allowed six runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out five over five innings.

The Tincaps scored their two runs on a homer by Robert Lara in the fifth inning. The game was called with a runner on first and nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning after further delays.

The win is the Kernels fifth in a row, setting a new season high. The Kernels also tie a season high being five games above .500 at 25-20.
