Trees planted in honor of tornado victims

NEW HARTFORD (KWWL) -- To honor the two people from New Hartford who lost their lives in last year's tornado, the town planted two trees.

There's a Bur Oak in honor of 71-year-old Leasa Bleeker and a Red Oak in memory of 48-year-old Norman Beuthine.

Family members helped Governor Culver plant the trees Monday in Packwaukee park in New Hartford.

"I just really think it's something that's gonna be held true and dear," Beuthine's sister Cheryl Carver said.  "It's going to make you remember what happened a year ago and he'll always live on in that tree."

The Iowa State University Extension says the two oaks are great to plant for this occasion because they are long-lived and strong trees.
