DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Second place in the final event of the state track and field championships was enough for Waukee to claim first place in Class 4A.

Waukee, thanks to eight key points in the 1,600-meter relay, snuck past Iowa City, 98-97, for the 4A girls title.

Cedar Rapids Washington won the 4A boys title, four points ahead of Iowa City West.

Titles in 3A went to the Central Clinton, DeWitt boys and the Mount Vernon girls. The St. Edmond, Fort Dodge boys team won the 2A crown, while Logan-Magnolia cruised to the girls title.

North Tama, Traer won the 1A girls championship, as star Sara Staokes scored all 40 of their points. Madrid was the winner of the boys 1A title.
