Brothers Market open in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Grocery shopping no longer means driving to a different town for people who live in Parkersburg.  Brothers Market is now open for shoppers.

"It's very important this town and surrounding communities have a grocery store they can depend on and go to. We just feel strongly about the people and the strength of the community," said part owner Jared Devries.

The old grocery store was destroyed in the tornado. So three brothers and a family friend decided to rebuild a larger store.

"I get to be in business with one of my good friends and his family so it's really a dream job for me. I'm very happy about it," said part owner Dusty Hanson.

Hanson worked in the meat department of the old store. He said after the tornado he wasn't sure what he was going to do.

"I was out of the job. That's not the first thing on your mind because you're worried about everyone else, but once things got past a week, two weeks after, I was okay I need a new job," said Hanson.

Thanks to the partnership with the Devries brothers, Hanson has a job again. This time as store manager.

"Everybody knows the owners, knows who's working here. It's kind of like extended family. You get to see people you're used to seeing," said Hanson.

Even though Jared Devries now lives in Michigan where he plays football for the Detroit Lions, he said he plans to return to the area in the future.

"It's a way for us brothers to give back. We have so many memories and have so many great people here. People in the community and surrounding communities are fantastic and this is awesome to see. Everybody's got smiles on their faces, and it's exciting," said Devries.
