Willms sets 3rd state record

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa City West girls and the Dowling Catholic boys lead the Class 4A team standings heading into the final day of the state track and field meet.

Iowa City West has a five-point lead over rival City High. Dowling Catholic holds a five-point lead over Cedar Rapids Washington and the Iowa City West boys.

Though the Sioux City East girls are currently fourth in 4A, their distance medley team set a new state record in 4:00.39. That time was also the nation's best so far this season.

North Tama's Sara Stoakes continues her assault on the 1A girls record books, setting a new mark in the 400 hurdles.

Twin Cedars Bussey is ahead in the 1A girls race, while Madrid holds a 6 1/2-point lead in the boys standings.
