Day One At Coed State Track Meet

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Eastern Iowa athletes have some big performances on day one of the Coed State Track Meet.

Sara Stoakes of North Tama won the 1A 400 meter dash for her ninth career title.

Sid Hansen of Dike-New Hartford edged teammate David Webber for the 2A Long jump title and Kevin Dibbern of Iowa City High winning his second straight 4A 400 meter title.

Overall, the girls ruled at the state track and field championships as four different Class 4A athletes set meet records.

Sioux City East's Ellen Dougherty set a new mark in the 400 meters on Thursday, winning in 55.41. Waukee's Whitney Westrum broke the 4A record in the 200, running 24.53 in a preliminary heat. Iowa City West's Jessica Gehrke also set a new mark during the preliminaries, running the 100 in 12.22. Iowa City High held a three-point lead over rival Iowa City West in the 4A girls standings.

Burlington's Khanishah Williams set a new 4A record in the high jump, winning with a leap of 5 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

    The Iowa Hawkeye baseball team gave up a season high 13 runs in a 13-5 loss to Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights took two out of the three games in the series against the Hawks. Rutgers pounded out 16 hits in the games and scored the first 10 runs in just four innings.
