Doctors help patients in tough economy

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The economic recession is affecting the health of many Americans.  These days, more and more family doctors are cutting their fees and giving screenings for free to help out.

In a new survey of family physicians,  90 percent said they have patients who are concerned about being able to pay their medical bills.  Nearly 60-percent of doctors said they've seen a lot more appointment cancellations... and a lot more health problems because of it.  Many are also seeing an increase in uninsured patients.

The survey of about 500 family doctors is from the American Academy of Family Physicians.
