CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)--If you want to see the city of Cedar Rapids' latest flood protection tool, be at the Sinclair site on East Third Street Southeast Tuesday afternoon.

City crews will stage a demonstration for the new hesco container units at one p.m.

The metal baskets can be filled with sand and are designed to protect low-lying neighborhoods when the Cedar Rivers rises to 24 feet.

The city's other temporary flood protection, large bladders called ''tiger dams'' arrived in April.

Tiger dams are tubes that can be filled with water, and creators say are the equivalent of 500 sandbags.

The city of Cedar Rapids bought about 300 of them at more than $1200 each and are re-usable.
