NEW HARTFORD (KWWL) - A former Cedar Falls art teacher created a tribute to area tornado victims.

Bill Close created the painting "EF5" out of actual storm debris collected right after the storm. It is dedicated to the eight people who lost their lives.

The paintings range from sadness and devastation, to hope and rebuilding. The artwork was presented to the people of Butler County.

Close says his artwork celebrates the spirit of renewal seen throughout the damaged area.

"This painting is a tribute to the spirit of the people of this community. This city of New Hartford has been through several floods, people here are not willing to give up," says Bill Close.

Close lives in the Deer Ridge Addition, north of New Hartford, which was hit hard by last May's tornado.
