Aplington-Parkersburg graduation one year after the tornado

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Nearly one year after a tornado ripped apart their communities, the Aplington-Parkersburg High School class of 2009 graduated Sunday under very different conditions from previous years.  They were outdoors.

Because of damage to the high school, the seniors had to finish high school in a wing of the elementary school.  Graduation is usually in the gym, but it wasn't a possibility this year.
Wanting to graduate in parkersburg at the school, the Falcon Football Field was the obvious choice.

"We've been through a lot this year, and I really think we deserved to have a special graduation on Ed Thomas Field," graduate Sarah Sessler said.

As for next year's seniors, the classrooms in the new high school building should be done by August 15th.  The rest of the building, including the gym should be complete by November.
