Fallen officers honored

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- In honor of Police Week, local officers in Waterloo are being recognized for their heroic efforts and dedication to the community.

A ceremony at Veterans Memorial Hall in Waterloo took place Thursday afternoon honoring those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.  Eleven officers were honored Thursday with bagpipes and the twenty-one gun salute.

"It's important that we remember officers, especially officers from our own department here in Black Hawk county, that made the ultimate sacrifice and to recognize their actions, their works, and more importantly to recognize their families that their names are not forgotten," Waterloo Police Chief Tom Jennings said.

National Police Week runs from May 10th through the 16th this year.
