DAVENPORT (KWWL) -- May 14, 1836, Antoine LeClaire founded the city of Davenport.  It came about four years after the end of the Black-Hawk War.
According to the U.S. Census in 2000, the population of Davenport was a little less than 100,000.  John Deere is the largest employer in the area.  Von Maur and Lee Enterprises are headquartered in Davenport.

The city is named after the founder's friend, Colonel George Davenport.
