160 bikes donated in Dubuque

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- It was a perfect day to ride your bike Saturday, but in Dubuque nearly 160 people actually gave their bikes away.  Pedals for Progress collected bike donations to be sent to third world countries. Tim Weitzel, an avid bike rider, started collecting the bikes after his daughters took a service trip to Haiti. He said it's a small gift that makes a huge difference.

"It's a god send to people that are used to talking 3 to 5 miles to get water, go to a job or to go to school," Tim Weitzel said.

Along with the bike donation, organizers asked for a $10 donation to help with shipping costs.

The semi truck full of bikes will travel to New Jersey before the bikes are shipped off to countries in need.

If you'd like to donate a bike you can call Tim at 563-580-9713.
