Kernels' Rally Falls Short at South Bend, 10-8

The Cedar Rapids Kernels couldn't overcome a 10-1 South Bend lead after five innings and lose to the Silver Hawks, 10-8.  It's the second time this season the Kernels have been swept in a road series. Cedar Rapids has lost four in a row and their last seven road games.
 
Kernels starter Will Smith, making his first start since April 18, was roughed up for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits. He struck out five over three innings and gave up a grand slam to Victor Estevez in the six run South Bend third inning. Christian Scholl threw two innings of relieve and Francis Cabrera held South Bend to one hit over three innings of relief.
