Fry sentenced to ten years

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Curtis Fry will spend ten years in prison for the beating death of an elderly Iowa City man.

Attorneys say Fry was drunk after celebrating his 21st birthday when he randomly broke into the apartment of 75-year old Jerome "Patrick" McEwen and beat him to death in February last year. He was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter.

Fry said in court on Thursday, he knows he can't say anything to heal the pain and apologized for his actions.

He'll have a chance for parole and serve less than the maximum ten year sentence based on previous time served and good behavior in prison.
