Independence turns down city hall

Independence (KWWL) - Independence voters turned down a bond for a new city hall.

If passed, the $1.8 million bond referendum would pay to renovate an old Fareway store into a city center.

It would have housed city hall, the chamber of commerce, the police deparment and the city building department.

296 voters chose yes, 871 chose no. 21-percent of the county's registered voters turned out.
