Loras lock down has been lifted after armed robbery in Dubuque

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - A lockdown at Loras College has been lifted after an armed robbery at a BP gas station on Loras Blvd. Police say the suspect is still at large but after searching the area they believe students and residents are safe

According to the Loras website, police requested the campus be put into lockdown after the BP on Loras Boulevard was robbed.  Students were asked to stay inside as the suspect was thought to be heading that way.  Loras officials told KWWL that all buildings were secure at the time of the lockdown.

One witness says it all happened so fast, he thought it was a joke.

"As he was walking up he pulled out a gun and stared at me, waiting for me to react but I just looked at him and thought he was joking," said Andy Brown, a witness and student at Loras College.

Witnesses say the man pulled a gun from his sweatshirt, ran inside and demanded money from the clerk.  Then he ran outside and across the street, removing his hat and sunglasses.  He is described as a white male, 5'8", wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, a ski mask and sunglasses.

If you have any information you are advised to call police.
