Crime victims' remembrance event in Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Saturday marked the end of "National Crime Victims' Rights Week."
An event in Waterloo is helping people honor the memories of loved ones lost to crime.

Dozens of people gathered at Lincoln Park in downtown Waterloo this afternoon for this remembrance event.  It comes less than a week after the stabbing death of 18-year old Kevin Garcia at Exchange Park in Waterloo.  This event gives victims a chance to help each other move forward, while honoring the memories of lost loved ones.

"This past week we've still had tragedy. It still happens. I just hope that we can continue to pull together as a community and be there for eachother," said Department of Correctional Services victim liaison Laura Walker

Following a concert by the Lord's Warrior Drill Team, people wrote the names of victims and a message to honor them on ribbons placed around the park.
