Test results delayed in probable H1N1 cases in Iowa

DES MOINES (KWWL) - A third probable case of H1N1 flu has been found in Marshall County according to the Iowa Department Of Public Health.

In addition to Marshall County, Des Moines and Clinton counties also have probable cases.

Specimens have been sent in to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control  and Prevention (CDC) for testing.

Those results are expected back sometime on Friday or Saturday.

Speaking Friday at a Statehouse news conference, Gov. Chet Culver told reporters test results were being delayed because of the number of samples being sent to the CDC.

Iowa's Department of Public Health's director commended the work being done by local healthcare workers around the state.

"The work public health is doing is critical to protecting the health of Iowan," said Tom Newton Director Iowa Department of Public Health.
