Postville topic of conference at UNI

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- "Postville: Past, Present and Future" -- the title of a conference taking place at the University of Northern Iowa.

It kicked off Thursday evening with the showing of the documentary "AbUSed: the Postville Raid" directed by Luis Argueta, a Guatemalan film director.

The events continue Friday with a panel discussion at 9 a.m. in Russell Hall's Bengston Auditorium. Mark Grey, UNI processor of Anthropology; Michelle Devlin, UNI associate professor of health promotion and education, and Aaron Goldsmith who will speak on the contents of their book Postville USA: Surviving Diversity in Small Town America

A dramatic interpretation titled "Duevo Amanecer: Weaving a New Beginning" will be performed at 4 p.m. in room 108 of the CAC. 

A showing of the play "Historia de nuestras vidas" will take place at 7:30 p.m. also in room 108 of the CAC.

The conference is sponsored by the Graduate Student Association of Polyglots, the Department of Modern Languages, the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, UNI Faculty Senate, the Center for Multicultural Education, Iowa Center of Immigrant Leadership and Integration, Sigma Delta Pi, the Iowa Center on Health Disparities, the UNI Office of International Programs, and the UNI Study Abroad Center. 

All events are free and open to the public.
