Pavelski Joins US National Team

Former Waterloo Black Hawk forward Joe Pavelski has been added to the 2009 U.S. Men's National Team roster.

The U.S. Men's National Team is currently competing at the 73rd annual International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship in Bern and Zurich-Kloten, Switzerland.

In his third National Hockey League season, Pavelski skated in 80 regular-season games for the San Jose Sharks in 2008-09. He recorded career highs in points (59), goals (25), and assists (34). Pavelski also added one assist in six playoff contests this season.

In January, the Black Hawks retired Pavelski's number (8) in a ceremony at Young Arena.  A former USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year, the Plover, Wisconsin native played for the Hawks for two seasons from 2002-2004.  He led Waterloo in scoring during his rookie season, then, as captain, led the organization to its first Clark Cup championship in 2004.

Pavelski joins another former Black Hawk, Jason Blake of the Toronto Maple Leafs, on the U.S. National Team.
