Cedar Bend Humane Society breaks ground

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Soon, the Cedar Bend Humane Society will be able to help even more animals.  Wednesday they broke ground for a new adoption center.

The site is right next to the current center on Airline Highway in Waterloo.

Actual construction should start soon, with completion in about six to seven months.

The current facility was built to house 3,000 animals a year, but the Cedar Bend Humane Society sees close to 10,000.

"Our animals that are up for adoption stay with us until they find a home so their quality of life is very important to us while they wait for that new home," said Co-Director Kristy Gardner. "This will help ensure that."

The Cedar Bend Humane Society is still accepting donations for the capital campaign.  About 90 percent of the necessary funds are already raised.
