More layoffs at local radio stations

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Clear Channel Radio laid off another 590 people today, mostly in programming and back-office jobs. This includes two people at WMT 600 in Cedar Rapids and two people at KXIC 800 in Iowa City, according to a Clear Channel employee.

The 590 cuts are on top of the 1,850 positions eliminated on January 20. Many of the Inauguration Day budget cuts were in sales, while that department was spared this time. Clear Channel says it's trying to be generous with severance. For perspective, CC has trimmed 2,440 jobs so far this year out of a total of about 900 radio stations. It's also cutting some corporate-level functions such as marketing.
