Iowa City Police News Release:

Several months ago, a Johnson County Sheriff's Office detective contacted an Iowa City Police Department investigator regarding human trafficking, specifically prostitution, occurring in the area. That discussion grew into a prostitution investigation involving many area law enforcement agencies: the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the Iowa City Police Department, the State of Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the University of Iowa Police Department, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Coralville Police Department. Investigators used the internet to locate and contact persons that appeared to be offering sexual encounters for money. As a result of this on-going investigation, four persons were recently charged with various offenses.

An undercover officer posing as a customer contacted a subject after viewing an on-line solicitation. A meeting was arranged at an area hotel. On February 8, Brown arrived at the hotel and explained what specific sexual acts she would perform for money. Brown had been driven to the hotel by Scott. Brown was to give Scott any money she earned. Scott, in turn, would determine what amount Brown would be allowed to keep. Scott admitted he was to provide transportation and "protection" for Brown.

McFadden, also known as "Megan," along with Nolker advertised "encounters" on Craig's List. An undercover officer posing as a customer contacted McFadden and arranged to meet with the two of them at an area hotel. McFadden and Nolker arrived together at the hotel on February 11. The undercover "John" and the women discussed specific sexual acts the women would perform for money. Additionally, a notebook was found in McFadden's car that McFadden admitted was hers. The notebook contained what appeared to be the names of other "Johns" and scheduled appointments with other women. These other women were also discovered to be listing their services on Craig's List. In each case, the contact phone number listed was McFadden's phone number. McFadden was also found to be in possession of marijuana.

As of this release, only Scott has been arrested. Arrest warrants have been obtained for Brown, McFadden, and Nolker. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are likely.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
