White beats Purple 14-4

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa football team finished its spring drills Saturday with its annual spring game in the UNI-Dome. The White squad scored a 14-4 victory over the Purple squad in the game.

The White squad consisted of the Panther offense, while the Purple squad was represented by the Panther defense. The Panther offense scored a pair of touchdowns, while the defensive squad tallied a two interceptions to score its points on the board.

Will Eilert caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Zach Davis in the second quarter to put the first points on the board. Billy Hallgren added the extra point and the White squad led 7-0.

Andre Martin picked off his first pass of the day in the third quarter to give the Purple squad its first points of the day. Martin added another interception in the fourth quarter to trim the lead to 7-4.

Quarterback Caleb Walter completed the scoring with a one-yard sneak in the final minute of the game for the 14-4 final.

UNI will open the 2009 season Sept. 5 at Iowa. The Panthers' first home game of 2009 will occur Sept. 12 against South Dakota in the UNI-Dome.
