Walking for MS

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- 30 students and other community members walked to bring awareness to Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The walk was aiming to raise $15-thousand.

40 percent of the money raised will help fund research, and 60 percent will help those in Iowa and surrounding states to help pay for expenses.

MS is not fatal, but preventative care is necessary in order to keep symptoms from getting worse.

Symptoms range from fatigue to paralysis.

Walk chair Todd Evans explains how costly prevention can be, "If you don't have insurance or if you have an insurance policy that doesn't cover the medication. It's extremely expensive. I know people that spend 8 hundred dollars a month simply on their MS medication."

The walk was started 4 years ago because the student athletic training chair has ms himself.

Evans now supervises and cheers on the UNI student athletic training group who works on raising the money for the walk.
