GRUNDY CENTER(KWWL) -- A member of the Obama cabinet was in eastern Iowa today to talk about school spending.

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan met with the students at Grundy Center Elementary. These students are participating in PE4LIFE, which is a physical education program that inspires healthier living with daily physical education programs. School officials say this system has led to increased physical fitness as well as improvements in reading and math comprehension.

It's programs like this that Duncan says he would like to see put into practice all around the country.

"We have unprecedented resources,  $100 billion dollars going into education so we have a chance to really take education to the next level and I want us to work hard enough and smart enough with the real sense of urgency to give every child the kind of opportunities they need. Just like the kinds of opportunities that are happening here," said Secretary Duncan.

After his visit to Grundy center, Arne Duncan attended an education forum hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.

The nation's schools will get about $100 billion dollars in the federal stimulus bill, Iowa's share is right around $411 million.
