Nursing home license in jeopardy

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) -- An assisted-living center in Dubuque has been fined thousands of dollars and could lose its license for various violations, including failing to attend to a 92-year-old resident for several hours after a fall.

State documents show the license for Dubuque Retirement Community has been placed on conditional status, effectively one step away from revocation, following an inspection by state regulators.

Officials with the facility dispute some of the state's claims and say they are working the state to correct any problems and improve the status of its license.

The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals fined the facility $4,000 in February. In early March the agency ordered the conditional status for the center, to be in effect for no more than one year.
