IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Wednesday morning, the Iowa City Police Department welcomed two new officers into its ranks.

City Clerk Marian Karr administered the Police Officer's Oath and Police Chief Sam Hargadine pinned an Iowa City Police badge onto the uniform of each officer. The new officers are Tyler LaKose, 21, from Walford and Travis Neeld, 25, from New Boston, Il. LaKose has served as a reserve police officer for the University Heights Police Department since January 2008. Neeld has been a full-time dispatcher for the Johnson County Sheriff's Office since July 2008.

Both officers are scheduled to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, a thirteen week academy located at Camp Dodge in Johnston. After graduation, the officers will begin a field training program with the Iowa City Police Department. Both officers were hired to fill vacancies created by the resignation of two veteran officers.
