House hearings heat up debate over climate change

WASHINGTON (KWWL) - Debate on a massive bill to curb climate change heats up this week in the House.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday begins four days of hearings on a draft bill that will limit for the first time the gases blamed for global warming and could revolutionize the way the country produces and uses energy.

The marathon sessions will help shape final legislation that Democratic leaders hope the House will pass by the end of the summer.

More than 60 witnesses are expected to testify. They include members of President Barack Obama's Cabinet and representatives of environmental groups, electricity producers, auto manufacturers and renewable energy companies.
