Officer Davis benefits spread well beyond Cedar Rapids

CORALVILLE (KWWL) - Monday night Eastern Iowans ate dinner and helped the family of an injured officer at the same time.

Texas Roadhouse in Coralville donated 10-percent of Monday night's proceeds to the Davis family. Officer Tim Davis suffered head injuries when he was assaulted on duty.

Letters from elementary school students to Officer Davis could be found all over the restaurant. Many customers waited almost an hour for a table. The restaurant's manager estimates they raised $1400 from the benefit.

"It's amazing," said Texas Roadhouse manager Kandi Baylor. "I just think people really feel for this family. He's a young father and it just really hits people in the heart and they want to help in any way they can and this is an easy way to do it."

Davis' wife wrote on Caringpages.com that he is getting in and out of a wheel chair by himself. He has hours of therapy each day, and appreciates everyone's support.

Monday, Jose Rockiett plead not guilty to assaulting Davis. The 17-year-old will go to trial in July.
