Celebrating Architecture Days in Dubuque

DUBUQUE (KWWL)-- The Key city is celebrating Architecture Days April 20-23.

The city wants to heighten recognition of architecture as an art form.

The week of free events and activities is meant to highlight and celebrate some of the unique architecture in the city.

Architecture Days is a week-long celebration, inspired by National Architecture Week.

Look for historical architectural treasures in the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald this week.

Featured Week Activities:

Evening Architecture Workshop and Tour: Pigeons or Profits

Tim Reinders, Architectural Design Consultant for Main Street Iowa, will discuss Upper Floor Rehab as a key to sustainable neighborhoods and a vital downtown on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the Grande Ballroom of the Hotel Julien Dubuque, 200 Main Street. Tours of Historic Old Main & Cable Car Square Upper Floor Rehab projects will follow. Walking is involved.

Dubuque County Historical Society Preservation Awards

The Dubuque County Historical Society will present their annual awards for outstanding efforts in Preservation in Dubuque County as a special part of our Evening Workshop on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the Grande Ballroom of the Hotel Julien Dubuque, 200 Main Street.

Brown Bag Lunch Discussions

Architects, city planners, preservationists, and historians will present on topics and lead discussions in the 180 Main Restaurant & Pub Banquet Room, 180 Main Street, daily from April 20-23, 12:10 - 12:50 p.m. Bring your own lunch or order from 180 Main's "Brown Bag Quick Menu" and prepare to be architecturally enlightened.

Architects Into The Schools

Local architects are welcomed into area High Schools by The Dubuque Community School District for discussions of careers in architecture, embodied energy, building re-use and the environmental and social aspects of architecture.

Community-Wide Architectural Hunt

Imagery of architectural elements will be featured in the Telegraph Herald. Find the locations of our historical treasures, and enter for a chance to win "Experience Summer in Dubuque!" gift packages.

Walking Tours of Downtown

Historian Mike Gibson and Architect Chris Wand will host an evening walking tour of downtown Dubuque on Wednesday, April 22 at 5:30 p.m. Meet in Washington Park.
