Residents protest addiction center move

FORT DODGE (AP) -- Residents of a Fort Dodge neighborhood have loudly questioned a proposal to bring in an addiction treatment center to a former church property.

The consolidated Community and Family Resources is proposing to move administrative offices, residential treatment programs, an adolescent program and an outpatient facility to the neighborhood.

Residents say they're afraid of the impact the move would have on their home values, and say they'd rather have the facility in a business district.

Community and Family Resources officials and supporters say the agency's clientele are supervised, and say neighborhoods that currently host the facilities haven't reported any problems.

The facility could regularly treat as many as 100 people at the site.
