Wall raising for Habitat Home

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Despite economic hardships, some low income families can still afford a new house.

Single mother Latoya Robinson helped build her own house through Habitat for Humanity.  It's helping bring her closer to her goal of being a home owner.  After saving money for a down payment she heard about habitat for humanity from her future neighbor.

Together, volunteers helped raise walls Saturday at a home in Black Hawk County.

"Its not like I'm just moving in. I have to help build it so it make it more special to you if you help build it," said future home owner Latoya Robinson.

Robinson says Habitat for Humanity made it easier for her and her five children to be able to afford a nice home.  Her down payment on the house was in "sweat equity" hours rather than savings or a loan.
