Today 2nd anniversary of Virginia Tech massacre

BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA (NBC)-- Today is the second anniversary of the deadliest rampage by a single gunman in U.S. history.

In Blacksburg Virginia, police responded to a student named Seung-Hui Cho, who opened fire in a dorm and a classroom, killing 32 students and faculty before turning the gun on himself.

Several others were injured, and some students survived by pretending to be dead.
The shootings put national attention on how schools warn students about emergencies, laws about purchasing guns, and mental health care for students.

Iowa Governor Chet Culver is a 1988 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in political science.
Culver proclaimed today "Virginia Tech Remembrance Day in Iowa."
