Bridge of the future built in Eastern Iowa

BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) -- The bridge of the future has been constructed right here in Eastern Iowa.

The Jakway Park bridge in Buchanan County is the first North american bridge built with a new generation of ultra-high performance concrete.  The bridge has a compressive strengths up to 30-thousand psi, and will have no long term effects of road salt.

Funding for the the bridge of the future was granted through the TEA-21 innovative bridge construction program managed by the Federal Highway Administration

The Jakway Park bridge needed to be replaced as the old one was built in 1910.
