Tiger Dams: Using water to keep water away

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Goodbye sandbags, a new form of flood protection used in New Orleans and Europe is coming to eastern Iowa.

The City of Cedar Rapids recently bought "Tiger Dams" to help in case of another flood. Tiger Dams are tubes that can be filled with water, and creators say are the equivalent of 500 sandbags.

Each one is 45 feet long, about a foot high, and 30 can be stacked on top of one another. The International Flood Control, which makes the dam, says these tubes are reusable while sandbags need to be disposed after one use.
