House passes judge traveling measure

DES MOINES (KWWL)--Judges in the state may be able to drive to nearby counties to hear cases, if they pay their own way.

The Iowa House passed the vote 95-0 Monday night.

Budget cuts had banned judges from driving previously even though some judges volunteered to pay for their own travel.  55 counties don't have a judge in residence, which forced trials to be moved to another county, driving up expenses.

The measure now moves to the Senate.
