More officers coming to Waterloo

Waterloo (KWWL) - The Waterloo City Council has just overrode Mayor Hurleys decision to not hire more police officers.

During Monday night's City Council meeting, the council voted five to two to override Mayor Hurley's veto on more police officers.

The council decided to hire four to five officers with a grant, but the grant runs out in three years. Afterwards, Waterloo will be required to keep the officers for at least a year which hurley says will cost the city $350,000.

The Council cited rising violence as the reason for the vote.
