Researchers hope low fat soybean oil finds a market

JOHNSTON (KWWL)-- Iowa's soybean fields are tackling trans-fats.

Johnston-based Pioneer Hi-Bred has engineered a soybean to make oil with no trans fats.

The oil could be used in fast-food kitchens and by snack makers.

Usually soybean oils need hydrogen injections to be stable in high heat, but this genetically-engineered soybean may solve that problem.

The oil could be on the market by 2018.
