Easter egg hunt in Dike

DIKE (KWWL) -- Dike Lions Club Youth Committee Chair Darrel Sloth isn't sure how long Dike has had an Easter egg hunt in the park because someone has been doing it for at least the last 30 years.  The town held the event Saturday morning.

"Every year we put out about 300 some eggs for the 50 to 60 kids we usually get.  It was such a nice day today we had over a hundred kids today so we're really happy about the turn out.""  said Darrel Sloth.

"We drove down here and they said there was an Easter egg hunt at the park and it sounded like fun. We've never done one." said Ankeny resident and mother Amy Miller.

Miller's three daughters, Ellerson, Delaney, and Kerigan, spent Friday night practicing at their grandparents.

"I think they were surprised at how many kids there were. It was just a big sweep of all the eggs so we could tell if one got two eggs and the other got one, there would be some-ya know- upset feelings and there were. But then the other one gave up an egg to the littlist one. So they each had one of their own," said Miller.

"It was a good day to learn a good life lesson about sharing," said Grandfather Brent Hanson.
