Iowa City to consult new flood model

IOWA CITY (AP) -- University of Iowa and Iowa City officials will consult a new, highly detailed flood model of the Iowa River in planning mitigation and construction projects along the river.

The model will help university and city officials assess projects along the river while being able to predict susceptibility to flooding.

The model covers a 13-mile stretch of the Iowa River, from the Coralville Dam to the southern edge of Iowa City. It also covers three miles along Clear Creek, 19 bridges, two dams and nearly every major structure along that stretch of the waterway.

The University of Iowa funded the $200,000 model project.
